Volkswagen has every intention of beating Tesla at its own game and is well on its way to success! After the outstanding popularity of the ID.4, Volkswagen is revealing the all-new VW ID.AERO concept, a future midsize sedan that could very well replace the Passat, which is leaving us soon.

Find out more about current information revealed by Volkswagen and the future electric Aero’s aerodynamic design!

ID.AERO in numbers: battery and autonomy

Firstly, the all-new VW ID.AERO is based on the same platform as the ID.4 SUV, the MEB frame. According to Volkswagen, this chassis is designed for an even weight distribution that promotes an optimal dynamic driving experience. If you wish to find out more about the first model, you can discover Volkswagen’s electric SUV in great detail: the ID.4.

We also know that the all-new sedan will be equipped with a 77 kWh battery. As for power, data has not yet been revealed, but some car experts estimate that it should be similar to that of the ID.4.

This would mean that we can expect a traction model with an electric motor for around 201 horsepower, and another with all-wheel drive and two motors for extra power, which should be around 295 horsepower.

As for autonomy, it was evaluated, but according to European methods. On the other side of the ocean, the estimate is that this new electric car will offer up to 620 km of electric range! This number will obviously be a little lower in North America. However, we can expect around 500 km of autonomy, which is much higher than several models currently available on the market.

This aerodynamic Volkswagen car will thus be offering greater autonomy than the SUV, mostly thanks to a drag coefficient of 0.23 cx, which means the design itself greatly and positively affects performance!

The future VW electric sedan’s design

As mentioned, the VW ID.AERO car is first and foremost designed to be aerodynamic, with fluid and elegant lines. When it comes to size, this is a sedan with dimensions similar to the Passat, which it could also very well be replacing, as mentioned before.

As for the overall design itself, it is closer to the ID.4, except it is lower and more elongated. There are also stunning and very dynamic wheels in a propeller motif which, on the images revealed, are particularly imposing, with a 22- inch diameter!

Just like on the SUV, a diode luminous bar runs across the front fascia, a stunning detail that is also repeated at the back. Volkswagen also adds a futuristic feel by replacing conventional door handles with touch surfaces.

For a sporty and contrasting style, the vehicle is mounted with a black roof and boasts a black grill on the lower part of the front. As for the VW Aero interior, we know it will be spacious thanks to the frame’s particularly long wheelbase.

Even if images have not yet been revealed, we can easily imagine that there will be loads of technologies available, just like on the ID.4, with its 10- or 12- inch multimedia system. More info and images will be made available soon!

What’s left to be known about the ID.AERO

We have been given a taste of what to expect from the future Volkswagen Aero in Canada, but some data has yet to be revealed.

Release date

The VW Aero should hit the market in 2024, but it is too early for a more precise date. As for production, it will begin as early as 2023 in Europe.

Estimated prices

The exact price for the VW Aero still has not been revealed. However, this hasn’t stopped experts from speculating: at Car and Diver, estimated prices (in American dollars) are:

  • $ 35,000 for the Base version
  • $ 42,000 for the Pro version
  • $ 47,000 for the Pro S version

This means that we can expect the sedan to be eligible for government grants, for more exciting final purchase prices, just like for the ID.4 SUV.
